Meet Laura...
Laura K. Smoyer (Polston) was born on November 21, 1974, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, to Reverend Garry and Lula Polston. Raised in a deeply musical and faith-centered home, Laura was immersed in Southern Gospel music from the very beginning. Her father, Garry “Roundman” Polston, traveled full-time in ministry with groups such as The Polston Family, The Servants, The Sego Brothers & Naomi, and The Brotherhood Quartet, while her mother faithfully supported the calling by ensuring Laura was surrounded by music and ministry at every opportunity.
By the age of three, Laura sang on the radio for the first time on her father’s program, marking the beginning of what has now become over four decades of ministry through song. While her father traveled, her mother took her to countless Southern Gospel concerts, nurturing both her love for music and her calling to serve the Lord.
On Father’s Day in 1984, Laura gave her heart to Christ. Led to the Lord and baptized by her father in a river in Greensburg, Kentucky, this moment became a cornerstone of her life and ministry. As Laura’s dad often shares, it was the greatest Father’s Day gift he ever received.
Laura began singing regularly with her family in churches across Kentucky, especially during the times her father was not on the road. After graduating high school in 1992, she attended the Steve Hurst School of Vocal Ministry & Performance in Nashville, Tennessee. It was there she clearly felt God’s calling to use her voice to share the message of Jesus Christ.
In the years that followed, Laura became a vital part of The Garry Polston Family, traveling extensively and ministering in churches and concert venues across the region. The group had the honor of sharing the stage with well-known Southern Gospel artists including The Crabb Family, The Isaacs, The Nelons, Perfect Heart, and The Perrys. Laura often reflects on those years as some of the most meaningful of her life, cherishing the unique joy of “family harmony” and the opportunity to minister alongside her parents.
Following her family group’s season of ministry, which concluded in 2013 when her mother retired, Laura continued to follow God’s leading into a new chapter. Her father later traveled with The Noblemen of Shelbyville, Kentucky, until his retirement in December 2023.
After much prayer, Laura stepped into a greater focus on her solo ministry, while continuing to record and minister through music along the way. In this exciting new season, Laura K. Ministries continues to grow as she ministers with authenticity, passion, and a powerful sense of God’s presence. Known for her warm personality, “country as cornbread” as she says, and her ability to lead others into worship, Laura’s heart is to encourage and uplift every audience she encounters. She has had the privilege of opening for Gold City Quartet and participating in the Bill Gaither Homecoming Christmas Tour, further expanding her ministry reach.
Laura and her husband, Dennis Smoyer, reside in Frankfort, Kentucky, with their beloved miniature poodle mix, Buddy. When she is not traveling, Laura is deeply involved in her home church, Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church in Frankfort, Kentucky, where she serves on the choir and praise team. Dennis, an accomplished photographer, also serves as Laura’s personal photographer and videographer, and the two partner together in both life and ministry.
With over 48 years of singing and a lifetime devoted to ministry, Laura’s journey is a testament to faith, family, and the enduring power of gospel music. She looks forward to continuing to share the message of Jesus Christ wherever God opens the door and hopes to see you at a concert soon!
